Hula Classes

Hula is the ancient cultural art form of story in motion, passed down through generations by the kahunas (priests and sages) and kumu hula (master teachers) of Hawai‘i. Expressing both power and grace, the dances share the spirit of aloha and the splendor of the islands.

Gentle Hula Class for Na Wahine Makule (Older Women) ~ Session 2
Older women are invited to participate in the second session of beginner hula classes geared for those who like to take life at a relaxed pace. You will still get a good workout, improve your posture, whittle down your waist, while learning about Hawaiian dance and culture. Hula is good mental exercise making you retain several verses of dance steps while remembering hand motions that tell the story.

Hula Class for Beginners ~ Part II
The class is a continuation of Andrea's Fall 2007 beginner's class, but we’ve welcomed some newcomers who attended a 2-part workshop offered by Lisa in basic steps and hand motions.

Dates: January 16 - May 28, 2008
Class Times: Wednesdays 6:15 - 7:30 pm

Andrea Luchese, MA has a masters in Integral Dance, an approach to movement that explores the integration of dance and spirituality.  She has studied hula with Kumu Raylene Lancaster, Malia Nelson, and Barbara Chung.  Andrea is a member of Hula O Kahawai, and directs Ananda Natya School of Indian Dance in Ashland.  She teaches and performs Hula and Indian Classical Dance in the Rogue Valley and beyond.

Our first-annual "Evening of Aloha" show, featured the dancers of Hula O Kahawai, our keiki performers, and Andrea's Na Haumana class, along with live musical performances by Pili Moreno and Kathy Greene!
