Our keikis hula dancers kicked off the Festival with The Hawaiian Rollercoaster Ride, from Lilo and Stitch, followed by dances performed by the women of Hula O Kahawai.

Hula O Kahawai performed at Mo Bettah Sound Productions' First Annual Southern Oregon Luau Festival! The luau featured Kumu Hula Frank Keli'i Chang and his dancers, including Kaylee Kapuanani Weyker from the 39th Merrie Monarch Festival, in the gorgeous setting of the Applegate River Ranch.

Our song, He Mele No Lilo performed by Mark Keali'i Ho'omalu and the Kamehameha School Children's Chorus, was from the movie Lilo and Stitch, and honors the last two monarchs of the Hawaiian Kingdom: Queen Lili'uokalani and King David Kalakaua. Hula O Kahawai had the honor of opening for the legendary Makaha Sons, who for over thirty years have been perpetuating the culture of Hawaii via their vibrant sound, full and rich with harmonies that only they can create. Their incomparable vocal arrangements and delightful stage presence filled with comical antics have won the hearts of thousands of fans worldwide.

The American Cancer Society Relay for Life

As a way to give back to our community, Hula O Kahawai performs for no charge in a variety of community events. The American Cancer Society Relay for Life, on May 31, was one such event. We dedicated our performance to Verna Yungen (one of our dancers) and William Greene (a hula husband), both cancer survivors. We feel so lucky to have them both in our lives.
